How much does sod installation cost in Cape May County?
Our standard written rate is $2.85 per square foot for the complete job: tear-out, composted topsoil, lime, starter fertilizer, farm-grown sod, and 30 days of aftercare. A typical 1,500 sq ft front yard runs about $4,275. Project minimum is $2,000.
Why does island and shore soil need special preparation?
The barrier islands are sand and fill, and the mainland is sandy and acidic. Both drain fast and hold almost no nutrient. We build up composted topsoil and apply lime to bring the pH into the range grass needs. That step is why a lawn lasts instead of thinning out in a year or two.
How fast is the install?
Most lawns are torn out, prepped, and finished in a single day. We measure your yard from satellite, so the quote usually comes back the same day you text your address.
Do I have to be there?
For most sod installs, no. That is useful for second homes and rentals. If irrigation needs a water connection, someone has to let us in to reach the shut-off inside.
Do I need a sprinkler system?
Over about 1,500 sq ft of new sod, yes. Hand-watering cannot keep that much new grass alive through a Jersey summer. We install zoned systems with Toro heads and a Hunter Hydrawise Wi-Fi timer you run from your phone.
